Winter’s here and at Me Today, a new season means new skincare! We’ve all noticed the drop in temperature, and you can be sure your skin has too. It’s cold and windy outside, and warm and dry inside. Pair that with a hot shower and you’ve got the perfect storm for dry, itchy skin. We’ve pulled together some of our best tips to overhaul your skincare routine for these chilly winter months.
If there’s one thing your skin is craving right now, it’s hydration! First and foremost, drink plenty of water to hydrate from the inside out and consider swapping out your usual skincare products for thicker, richer, and more hydrating options. If you’re a regular user of our Women’s Daily range but find your skin needing something extra over winter, we recommend switching to our Plant Collagen+ range. It’s richer and packed with super-hydrating hero ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which can hold up to 1000 times its own weight in water, and Pentavitin® that binds and holds water to your skin, deeply hydrating for up to 72 hours.
The second step to beautifully hydrated skin is holding on to all that moisture. While we can add all the moisture we want, your skin’s natural barrier function is key to locking in that moisture. That’s where facial oils can help! They’re rich in omega oils 3, 6, and 9 and help to strengthen your skin’s natural barrier, reducing trans-epidermal water loss. Since they mimic your skin’s natural oils, they can be beneficial even if you have oily skin as they can help regulate any overproduction of oil. If you’re just starting out, choose an oil that’s non-comedogenic, light, and highly absorbable. Our Miracle Facial Oil is a great first foray. Apply sparingly at night after cleansing and toning, and let it work its magic while you sleep!
Finally, if you’re looking to treat any skin concerns over winter, keep in mind that retinols and chemical exfoliants can be harsh on dry skin. Swapping to a gentle physical exfoliant is a great option over winter or use a lower concentration of a gentle chemical exfoliant. A chemical peel may not be the answer to your dry winter skin, but a soothing, hydrating face mask might be just the boost of moisture you’re looking for. Last but not least, don’t skip out on your daily SPF – winter sun still causes skin damage – and always remember to patch test any new skincare products before use.
